Experience Costa Rica
Ylang Ylang Beach Resort is located in Montezuma, a small Pacific coastal town in the southern part of the Nicoya Peninsula. This is one of only five blue zones in the entire world – regions that are marked as having the happiest people with the longest lifespans. Montezuma is known for its never-ending white sand beach, as well as the nearby Romelia Wildlife Reserve (turtle sanctuary and hatchery) and the majestic local waterfall.
We will spend a day in Santa Teresa – a neighbouring community with a trendy, surfer vibe – exploring all that the town has to offer! With local knowledge, Meghan can share her recommendations for the best places to shop, eat, and explore the local beaches for surf or tide pool swimming.
This retreat is designed to connect you with the local landscape and local people. We are not here to take you to tourist attractions. Rather, we want to provide you with a behind-the-scenes look at the beauty and history of the region in a grounding, adventurous, and accessible way.
While there are plenty of activities planned, you will also have time to breathe. You will have downtime to reconnect with yourself, read, book a spa treatment, and recharge your batteries so you arrive home feeling balanced and nourished in a way only a trip to the tropics can provide.
What’s Included?
Say yes to yoga, adventurous excursions, and a taste of the local life in Costa Rica. See what magic unfolds when you take time to reconnect with yourself surrounded by the richness of nature and community.
FAQs
Q: Is this retreat only for advanced yogis?
A: Definitely not! You will benefit from having practiced yoga before, but Meghan and Cat are experienced yoga teachers who can adapt the practice depending on your skill level. We also offer suggestions and modifications if you’re dealing with an injury.
Q: What does a day at this retreat look like?
A: 6:30 AM yoga & meditation
8-9:30 AM oceanfront breakfast at your own pace
10 AM-4 PM group activity/free time
4:30 PM sunset yoga
6:30 PM dinner
Q: Are we required to participate in every excursion and activity?
A: No, you can customize your retreat experience to be as relaxed or as lively as you want. Although a group itinerary with daily meditation, yoga and activities has been curated, at the end of the day you can opt in or out of anything along the way. Optional horseback riding, ATVing, surfing, diving, zip-lining, and on-site spa services can be arranged at an additional cost.
Q: Should I bring Canadian dollars for spending?
A: No, CAD is not accepted in Costa Rica. We recommend bringing USD in bills smaller than $20 to use for shopping and tipping. The local currency is the Costa Rican Colon (CRC). You can order some from your bank if you want, but you will also always receive change from USD in the local currency. Be aware that many small shops will simply do an estimated conversion (usually around USD 1 = 550-600 CRC), which is why we recommend coming with small bills. Most established shops and restaurants will accept credit card payment - sometimes charging a % for the service. Small boutiques and vendors will likely be cash only.
Q: What is NOT included in the price?
A: You are responsible for booking and paying for international flights/transfers. We also strongly recommend that you get travel and medical insurance. Alcohol and snacks can be purchased at stores in town, and at most of the restaurants. You will need to bring your own personal items and money for souvenirs.
Q: Are there any specific health related issues that I should be aware of?
A: Costa Rica does not require any shots or vaccinations. The water is potable and of good quality. Although the health care system in Costa Rica has high standards, we do recommend having both travel and medical insurance. We also recommend bringing any health care supplies and medications that you use regularly.
