Costa Rica Beachfront Yoga & Nature Retreat 〰️

Cat and Meghan dreamed up and delivered a beautifully created yoga retreat that filled the physical, spiritual, mental and emotional senses. They helped to shift old patterns of my practice to align better with my body which lead to a better experience of a twice daily practice. They are committed to creating accessible practices and supporting cultural appreciation. Well done!

Escape to Costa Rica for a yoga retreat experience to replenish your mind-body-heart

Are you ready to practice yoga in community with others, explore on and off your mat, and get a taste of the treasures Costa Rica has to offer?

Thank you, Cat and Meghan, for putting so much heart into making this yoga retreat such a wonderful experience! Your careful planning and execution of the yoga classes, the way you made sure we would see and experience the varied treasures of the region and get a taste of Costa Rica, and the energy and enthusiasm you brought to every day were inspirational. A fabulous week all around.

Just the right combination of yoga, exploration, and appreciation of the local region.

Wake up to the peaceful sound of the ocean lapping at the lush coastline, chirping birds, and howler monkey calls. Get your body and energy moving with an invigorating but accessible vinyasa practice. Explore paradise surrounded by others craving a deeper connection with themselves. Balance the evening soaking in the stars and feasting on local organic food rich in history and nourishment.

This is what a 7-day yoga retreat in Montezuma, Costa Rica is like.

Your home away from home is a family-owned boutique hotel, operated by locals, giving you a unique taste of the community. Surrounded by unending beauty, you are invited to customize your retreat experience – immerse yourself in all the relaxing vibes or chase adventurous experiences – so you get the most out of your time here.

In addition to daily yoga and meditation, we will enjoy a waterfall hike together, explore the vibrant surf town of Santa Teresa, and soak up the magical peacefulness of Montezuma - away from the tourist stops.

Leave feeling relaxed, inspired to deepen your yoga practice, and intimately connected to those you made once-in-a-lifetime memories with.

Cat and Meghan made my week in Costa Rica relaxing, energizing along with lots of new adventures and excitement. I felt safe and cared for and reinvigorated with a renewed passion for yoga after not practicing for over two years.

Cat Doyle yoga Costa Rica

Cat Doyle (she/her)

Cat is a Canadian native with a deep love of bringing people together and creating an experience. She has been teaching yoga since 2011 and offers clear, straightforward instruction with a dose of insight and playfulness. Her background in biology and psychology – she has a BSc from Wilfrid Laurier University – means she is serious about anatomy, alignment, and functional movement. She focuses on moving in intentional, mindful ways and balances practices that feel like a good workout with practices that give you a sense of relief and release.

Meghan Trevorrow (she/her)

Meghan has lived in the Montezuma area of Costa Rica for over 5 years and is excited to bring that local insight to you! She also speaks Spanish, so can help with local communication. She studied dance in university and has been a yoga teacher since 2012 – mindful movement is her passion! She guides classes that have a seamless flow with easy-to-follow cues. Her vinyasa classes have been described as “sneaky strong” because they are powerful but slow-paced, and she also delivers a deeply rejuvenating yin practice.

Cat and Meghan’s Costa Rica Retreat included just the right combination of yoga practice, exploration and appreciation of the local vibes. The retreat was ideally located along a rugged coastline and nestled in a coastal forest, teeming with unique tropical flora and wildlife. Cat and Meghan took very good care of us, both on and off the mat. I’m so grateful for the opportunity to learn from them, to improve my asanas and expand my understanding of the yogic lifestyle. I believe I’ve come away from this experience with so much more than I had anticipated. Thanks to you both!

Experience Costa Rica

Ylang Ylang Beach Resort is located in Montezuma, a small Pacific coastal town in the southern part of the Nicoya Peninsula. This is one of only five blue zones in the entire world – regions that are marked as having the happiest people with the longest lifespans. Montezuma is known for its never-ending white sand beach, as well as the nearby Romelia Wildlife Reserve (turtle sanctuary and hatchery) and the majestic local waterfall.

We will spend a day in Santa Teresa – a neighbouring community with a trendy, surfer vibe – exploring all that the town has to offer! With local knowledge, Meghan can share her recommendations for the best places to shop, eat, and explore the local beaches for surf or tide pool swimming.

This retreat is designed to connect you with the local landscape and local people. We are not here to take you to tourist attractions. Rather, we want to provide you with a behind-the-scenes look at the beauty and history of the region in a grounding, adventurous, and accessible way.

While there are plenty of activities planned, you will also have time to breathe. You will have downtime to reconnect with yourself, read, book a spa treatment, and recharge your batteries so you arrive home feeling balanced and nourished in a way only a trip to the tropics can provide.

FAQs

Q: Is this retreat only for advanced yogis?

A: Definitely not! You will benefit from having practiced yoga before, but Meghan and Cat are experienced yoga teachers who can adapt the practice depending on your skill level. We also offer suggestions and modifications if you’re dealing with an injury.

Q: What does a day at this retreat look like?

A: 6:30 AM yoga & meditation

8-9:30 AM oceanfront breakfast at your own pace

10 AM-4 PM group activity/free time

4:30 PM sunset yoga

6:30 PM dinner

Q: Are we required to participate in every excursion and activity?

A: No, you can customize your retreat experience to be as relaxed or as lively as you want. Although a group itinerary with daily meditation, yoga and activities has been curated, at the end of the day you can opt in or out of anything along the way. Optional horseback riding, ATVing, surfing, diving, zip-lining, and on-site spa services can be arranged at an additional cost.

Q: Should I bring Canadian dollars for spending?

A: No, CAD is not accepted in Costa Rica. We recommend bringing USD in bills smaller than $20 to use for shopping and tipping. The local currency is the Costa Rican Colon (CRC). You can order some from your bank if you want, but you will also always receive change from USD in the local currency. Be aware that many small shops will simply do an estimated conversion (usually around USD 1 = 550-600 CRC), which is why we recommend coming with small bills. Most established shops and restaurants will accept credit card payment - sometimes charging a % for the service. Small boutiques and vendors will likely be cash only.

Q: What is NOT included in the price?

A: You are responsible for booking and paying for international flights/transfers. We also strongly recommend that you get travel and medical insurance. Alcohol and snacks can be purchased at stores in town, and at most of the restaurants. You will need to bring your own personal items and money for souvenirs.

Q: Are there any specific health related issues that I should be aware of?

A: Costa Rica does not require any shots or vaccinations. The water is potable and of good quality. Although the health care system in Costa Rica has high standards, we do recommend having both travel and medical insurance. We also recommend bringing any health care supplies and medications that you use regularly.

I loved everything about this retreat. I learned a lot, tried different kinds of yoga and had a great time exploring Costa Rica. Pura Vida!
