Rei means universal and also refers to the spiritual dimension and the soul. Ki is the name for the vital life force which flows through all that is alive. When these two Japanese characters are combined they present the concept of universal life force energy.

We start a Reiki session with a check in – about what to expect, what feelings and emotions may arise, and also offer an opportunity for to share what is currently going on. These treatments are co-creative and dynamic – it is not simply one way but us working together: me giving the treatment, and the receiver being open to receiving it.

An energy medicine treatment takes an hour, beginning at the head. The treatment continues through several hand positions on the front of the body and on the back. This stimulates physical, emotional, mental and spiritual balance. The post treatment experience is one where the body feels balanced, vital, relaxed and integrated and the mind is calm. The person remains fully clothed while being treated. You don't have to be in any special state of consciousness to receive Reiki, you don't have to even believe in it. It is often used on animals and even plants to improve their well-being.

Throughout the session, I use traditional Reiki symbols, and incorporate the chakras, the auric field and smooth out any imbalances I find. My goal is to provide healing while also utilizing supportive tools like essential oils and crystals to move clients to their highest level and help them on their journey. This will usually be an ongoing process so I like to finish with a little debrief over a cup of tea or some water to rehydrate and go over anything that arose for me throughout the process. Before we part ways, I like to include a little bit of homework for my clients. It can be simply to drink lots of water, and go to bed early for the next few nights to help process things. Or sometimes, depending on what arises during the session, it may be to wear a certain colour, get more sunlight, or another message I received during the treatment.

This is a very holistic experience, working for people’s highest good as we down-regulate their nervous system, and offer a calming, soothing, and grounding experience.
