Current Class Styles

Yin Unwind

Yin Yoga consists of longer held poses, mostly seated or lying down and moving meditatively. Yin yoga is different than other styles of yoga because it incorporates Chinese medicine principles and is aimed to stretch the Yin tissues, or fascia, ligaments and joints. We often use props to support the body in releasing and relaxing. This is a great practice to compliment more active (or yang) styles of practice and lifestyles.

Yoga Mobility Flow

This class is a blend of yoga postures, mobility work and physical therapy techniques. Expect to work in way that strengthens your core and increases the range of motion in your joints. In mobility work we talk about proximal stability and distal mobility and achieve that with functional range conditioning and CARs (controlled articular rotations). Yoga and mobility training will bring you more body awareness, flexibility and strength through your range of motion.

Core Flow

Core Flow classes are focused on integrating movements that isolate and strengthen the “core” of your body. This is a dynamic style that works the postural muscles - the abs, glutes and muscles around the spine. Expect to be challenged physically and enjoy a glorious savasana to end the practice. This class is perfect to build strength, balance and flexibility.

Vinyasa Flow

Flows are a well rounded, dynamic yoga practice. We incorporate postures to create heat in your body and build strength and each class is unique. Emphasis is placed on safe transitions between postures and cues to engage muscle groups. You will leave feeling inspired and uplifted.

Flow & Let Go

Flow and Let Go is a unique blend of energizing movement and deep relaxation. For the first half of the class, you'll engage in mindful postures designed to release tension and shift stagnant energy in the body. Then, transition into the serene calm of Yoga Nidra for the second half. This ancient practice, known as "yogic sleep," offers profound benefits for both body and mind, guiding you to a state of pure rest.

Yin + Aromatherapy

Experience a luxurious fusion of yin yoga and essential oils to bring you into greater connection with your body and breath. Cat educates you about essential oils and uses them while expertly guiding you through an all-levels yin practice. Essential oils work on many levels to shift your mood, physiological processes and your health. Therapeutic grade oils will be used aromatically and topically to support your physical and mental health. Expect to leave feeling more relaxed, less stressed and smelling lovely!

Other Yoga Class Styles Cat Teaches

Flow + Yin

The perfect practice for when you want “a little bit of both”. This class combines the energizing and active elements of Flow yoga and the cooling, stillness of Yin yoga. We first move in a dynamic flow and then take things down with longer held, supported poses to stretch the connective tissue and bring you into a more balanced state.

Power

Challenging sequences invite you to explore your breath and connect with your inner energy. Working from the inside out, this dynamic and active practice targets the whole body. Expect to generate internal heat in Power! This is a great practice to build strength and improve balance.

Chakra Yoga

Where attention goes, energy flows! In each class, you will learn about the powerful energy centres in your body and how to balance them. You may discover where in your body you need to pay more attention and the corresponding energy imbalances. Every practice will include a brief talk, yoga postures, mudras (hand positions) and sound/chanting and a downregulating savasana, all corresponding to a particular chakra. Chakra Yoga is for all levels.

CATurday Flow

Saturday morning yoga classes are special at Unroll the Mat! For many years, Cat consistently taught well-attended classes at an Ottawa-based studio and they became known as CATurday yoga. Flows are a well rounded, dynamic yoga practice. We incorporate postures to create heat in your body and build strength. Each class has a different focus - whether a posture or muscle group. Emphasis is placed on safe transitions between postures and cues to fully experience the pose. You will leave feeling inspired and uplifted.
