Advanced Yin Training

  • PranaShanti Education Centre 45 Eccles Street Ottawa, ON, K1R 6S3 Canada (map)

Yin Yoga is a slow-paced style of yoga, incorporating principles of traditional Chinese medicine, with asanas (postures) that are held for longer periods of time than in other styles. The sequences of postures are meant to stimulate the channels of the subtle body known as meridians in Chinese medicine and as nadis in Hatha yoga.

Yin Yoga poses apply moderate stress to the connective tissues of the body—the tendons, fasciae, and ligaments—with the aim of increasing circulation in the joints and improving flexibility. A more meditative approach to yoga, its goals are awareness of inner silence, and bringing to light a universal, interconnecting quality.

Yin Yoga was founded in the late 1970s by martial arts expert and yoga teacher Paulie Zink Taoist yoga (Tao Yin) and has been gaining in popularity ever since.

Building on our Yin Yoga Teacher Training – Foundations course, we will guide you to further and explore this quiet practice:

  • Understanding the Meridian System and Qi and how it relates to the practice of Yin Yoga;

  • Experiencing acupuncture to further appreciate the Meridian System and Qi;

  • Developing a meditative state through the practice of Yin Yoga and Mindfulness;

  • Exploring additional postures including contraindications, modifications and alternatives, the use of props and counter poses;

  • Sequencing for Yin Yoga classes for specific themes and needs.

For over 21 years she has been sampling different yoga styles, hot yoga, hatha, yin, somatic, etc., and is excited to be a part of teaching the Advanced Yin Yoga Teacher training at Prana Shanti to delve a bit more into the concepts of Qi, Yin/Yang, the Meridian theory and how they relate to Yin Yoga.

Cat Doyle loves connecting with people and helping them to feel better physically, mentally and emotionally. She has fused this knowledge with her own experience and has an interest in all health, healing and wellness modalities. A yoga teacher since 2011, Cat teaches classes, hosts retreats, leads teacher training and continues her own learning.

Cat is E-RYT 500 registered and has studied with many gifted teachers including Bernie Clark (Yin), Seane Corn (Vinyasa), Maria Garre (Ayurveda), Anodea Judith (Chakra) and Abrah Arneson (Reiki and Herbal Medicine).
