Teaching Through Touch

  • The Mat Lab Glebe 738A Bank St Ottawa, ON Canada (map)

Touch can be one of the most powerful tools as movement teachers, especially when used with intention, clarity, and care. This 2-hour interactive workshop is designed to help yoga and Pilates teachers build confidence in offering hands-on assists that are both mindful and effective.

We’ll explore how to approach touch in a professional, consent-based way, to create an environment where students feel safe, supported, and seen. You’ll learn key principles of hands-on assisting, including how to assess when (and when not) to offer touch, appropriate pressure, and how to work with different bodies.

Through guided practice and real-time feedback, we’ll break down common misalignments in foundational poses (please also bring your questions!) and explore simple, practical ways to support students. We’ll also practice offering “feel-good” enhancements that can deepen relaxation and connection.

This workshop is experiential so you can leave with confidence and embodied knowledge. Whether you’re newer to teaching or looking to refine your approach, this workshop will help you integrate touch in a way that feels authentic, grounded, and skillful.
