Can You Change Your Perspective? 🪞
/In the main bathroom at my new house, there is a window above the sink, instead of where a mirror would normally be. At first, we tucked a mirror just behind the faucet. But I really didn’t like the look of it and there was no way to actually hang it there. So I decided to ditch the mirror! (Full disclosure: there's another one on a side wall, just not over the sink).
This is new to me. I’ve been enjoying my routines without the feedback of gazing at myself. I’m sensing and feeling more, as opposed to judging or changing what I look like.
For many years, I taught and practiced yoga exclusively in rooms with mirrors. I was used to seeing myself in postures and "teaching mode". Over time, that has shifted as mirrors have become less popular in yoga studios and I now teach online and outdoors. I don't have an opinion as to whether mirrors in yoga classes are good or bad. I think that comes down to personal preference and what you are used to.
What I do think is amazing is to do things change perspective, which ultimately challenges our minds and bodies. When we challenge ourselves with a new perspective, we change ourselves.
You can challenge your perspective in small ways, whether that is by trying a different style of yoga, walk a different route, read a nonfiction book or even try a new recipe.
The key is to be aware, present and reflective in what you do. This can be the very change you're looking for!
P.S. This is not my bathroom below!
