Hand Placement Tips

Having a strong and purposeful foundation in your poses is key to feeling stable and bold. In downward facing dog the placement of the hands solidifies your foundation and practicing proper hand placement in dog will support you in poses like crow or even handstand.

  • Set up your hands shoulder distance apart or a little wider

  • If it makes your shoulders feel more integrated and stable, externally rotate your hands slightly

  • Put weight into the inner edges of your index fingers and thumbs

  • Press down through the finger pads and keep your energy connecting down into the ground so your arms stay active and engaged

Give these tips a go in down dog and then see how they translate into an arm balance like crow pose or an inversion like handstand. I hope you feel firm and steady with just the right amount of softness.
