Comfort & discomfort
/I'm writing you from the middle of a heatwave in Los Angeles. The temperatures have been around the same as what we would have for hot yoga: 100-110Β°F/37-43Β°C π₯΅
This has got me thinking about discomfort and how we, as humans, are constantly seeking comfort. I've been to the beach a couple of times and used a lot of air conditioning to try and stay cool. Our reality is that life is inherently uncomfortable. And this is what yoga can teach us off the mat. To stay present and responsive and attuned to the breath, no matter the circumstances.
In a yoga class, it's important to have aspects that challenge you. That may be a strength or flexibility aspect or staying still or being present. As I often say, when you challenge yourself, you change yourself. Of course there's a limit to what is a healthy challenge (please always listen to your body first!) and a yoga practice can help you to learn that.
I have my fall livestream 12-week yoga session starting up next week. Allow me to guide you through different aspects of challenge on your mat - you'll find yourself feeling more grounded and resilient. Yoga is best practiced regularly, as opposed to a big chunk once in a while.
My friend and student Allan C. says:
"I highly recommend Catβs yoga classes. I find her yoga classes enjoyable, challenging, and informative. I prefer the online class format over the in-studio model, this format allows Cat to provide better individual feedback, which is especially important and comforting."
I would love to see you regularly on your mat!
