Yin + Aromatherapy
/Hopefully you’ve been taking advantage of the milder days again! I myself have spent a lot of time outdoors after our Arctic blast last week. I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who signed up for my upcoming Yoga & Snowshoe Retreat this weekend as we are completely SOLD OUT! I am so excited to return to the hills and embrace nature in all her beauty this time of year with a fantastic group.
I know that during the winter months, all movement seems to feel harder than other seasons. Our bodies and joints take longer to warm up and you may need to wear extra layers. Slow, intentional movements are more important than ever. If you’re finding your muscles are tired after some skiing, skating or just trudging through heavy snow while walking the dog, I invite you to give Yin Yoga a try. Yin is a yoga practice that focuses on long-held poses that mainly work the connective tissues of the lower body. Think about stretching your legs and hips to show these areas some love after working so hard!
If you feel the need to unwind, I want to share this 1-hour Yin yoga class. Yin invites you to slow down, turn inward and tune into what you need – body, mind and soul. I know it may feel tough for those used to a faster paced yoga class, but I would say almost every student that has come to practice has left saying they were amazed at what was possible in a Yin class! Your body will thank you – trust me!
As Yin is such a grounding practice, I love to pair it with aromatherapy to further support healing. On Thursday February 16th at PranaShanti Education Centre in Ottawa, I will be hosting a two-hour Yin + Aromatherapy practice. The essential oils I use are very intentional and enhance the connection within. A few oils you may want to try yourself at home, while practicing Yin are:
Cedarwood
Juniper Berry
Wild Orange
Lavender
Frankincense
These are deeply grounding oils that will help to melt away stress and soothe the body and mind.
This special class will run 7pm - 9pm, offering the perfect way to close out your day. This workshop is excellent for lengthening extra tight muscles this time of year and soothing over-stimulated minds.
